MULESOURCE PRESS RELEASE

MuleSource Launches Mule 2.0 Community Edition with New Eclipse-based IDE

Drag and drop capability makes it easy for developers to visually configure their Mule infrastructure

SAN FRANCISCO (April 1, 2008) - MuleSource, the leading provider of open source service oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure software, today announced the immediate availability for download of Mule 2.0 Community Edition (http://mule.mulesource.org).

Mule 2.0 Community Edition brings major improvements to the world's most widely used open source integration platform, including:

  • New Eclipse-based IDE featuring visual drag-and-drop capabilities;
  • New XML schema and simplified APIs that make configuring Mule easier than ever before;
  • Bolstered Spring integration, providing a more robust framework for integrating and configuring Java applications;
  • A more efficient transformation engine;
  • Improved web services support via Apache CXF;
  • Other major architectural improvements, increasing Mule's robustness and paving the way for future enterprise-class features.

With more than one million downloads to date, Mule is the world's most widely used open source enterprise service bus (ESB). Designed to support high-performance, multi-protocol transactions between heterogeneous systems and services, Mule provides the basis for enterprise SOA. With a standards-based, zero intrusion approach to existing infrastructure and a simplified development model, Mule easily adapts to any environment. The open source development model allows organizations to achieve rapid ROI and enables developers to customize Mule to meet any integration requirement.

"Mule 2.0 Community Edition is the culmination of years of experience and feedback from the Mule community" said Ross Mason, CTO of MuleSource and founder of the Mule project. "This next-generation platform further simplifies SOA development, and is the basis for future versions of Mule Enterprise Edition."

The new Eclipse-based Mule IDE 2.0, bundled with Mule 2.0 Community Edition, makes it easy to create or edit a Mule configuration file in any type of Eclipse project, in any directory. Three tabs in the editor give developers an "overview" for editing global configuration elements, "services" for editing services defined in a Mule SEDA model and "source" for directly editing the XML source. The new drag-and-drop graphic capability dramatically simplifies configuration of any Mule infrastructure.

Mule 2.0 fully leverages Spring's extensible XML authoring so that configuring Mule is now easier than ever before. Configuration options are provided though any IDE (via XML schemas) and the correct syntax is auto-completed. The new Namespace Handlers validate a configuration before Mule even starts up. Class names are hidden from the user by default, rendering Mule configurations more robust and much less likely to break during upgrades. Other XML schema improvements include transport-specific endpoints, configuration namespaces and a bean definition parser toolkit for developing custom configuration extensions.

Mule 2.0 boasts a number of additional architectural improvements to make Mule more robust and to pave the way for new, powerful enterprise features in future versions of Mule. Improvements in Mule 2.0 include new internal registries, a more granular architecture for services and components, improvements to endpoint creation and usage, higher performance streaming, intelligent auto transformations, better memory management, and many other new features.

The open source Mule 2.0 Community Edition is immediately available for free download at: http://mule.mulesource.org.
